Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center and AME Publishing Company join hands for cooperation in Translational Pediatrics

A meeting was held in Guangzhou between the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center (GWCMC) and the AME Publishing Company (AME) on the morning of July 3, 2024, kicking off their joint cooperative efforts on the development of Translational Pediatrics (TP).

Attendees from both parties to the meeting include: Prof. Wenhao Zhou, president of GWCMC, Prof. Sitang Gong, vice president of GWCMC, Prof. Huimin Xia, director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Structural Birth Defect Diseases, Prof. Xiu Qiu, director of the Department of Woman Health Care of GWCMC, Prof. Gendie Lash, PI of GWCMC, Prof. Jing He, PI of GWCMC, Ms. Jingqi Zhang, deputy director of Office of International Affairs and Collaboration of GWCMC, Mr. Daoyuan Wang, president of AME and Ms. Grace Li, managing editor of AME, Ms. Silvia Zhou, senior editor of AME and Ms. Li Chen, project manager of AME(Figure 1).

As part of the cooperation program, we are glad to announce that Prof. Wenhao Zhou will serve as the co-Editor-in-Chief of TP, Prof. Xiu Qiu will serve as the deputy Editor-in-Chief of TP, Prof. Sitang Gong, Prof. Huiming Xia, Prof. Gendie Lash and Prof. Jing He will be an editorial board member of TP.

The partnership marks a significant milestone for both parties, enhancing in-depth communication and fostering further cooperation in the field of pediatrics. Together, we aim to further promote research and practice within the field, ultimately benefiting children around the world.

Introduction of Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center

The Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center (affiliated with Guangzhou Medical University, also known as Guangzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital and Guangzhou Children's Hospital) is the a public tertiary hospital specializing in women and children's health. In the Fudan University hospital rankings, its pediatric surgery ranks fourth nationally, and its pediatric internal medicine ranks eighth. Approved by the National Health Commission, it has been designated as the National Children's Regional Medical Center (Central South).

Currently, the Medical Center has five campuses in the central urban area of Guangzhou, with a total of 2,400 approved beds. In 2023, the hospital had approximately 4.56 million outpatient and emergency visits, discharged 143,000 patients, and performed 98,622 surgeries. Among these patients, 30% came from outside Guangdong, primarily serving the provinces of Hunan, Hubei, and Guangxi in the Central South region. It hosts 5 national clinical key specialties, including pediatrics for respiratory diseases, digestive diseases, surgery, neonatology, and genetics and endocrinology (rare diseases). The Center has strong capabilities in heart transplantation, stem cell transplantation, gene therapy, Da Vinci robotic surgery for children, interventional surgery, fetal medicine, prenatal diagnosis of genetic diseases, and artificial intelligence in pediatric medicine.

The Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center is at the forefront of scientific research in maternal and child health both internationally and domestically. It has established the Guangzhou Birth Cohort Study, one of the largest maternal and child cohort research platforms in the world. It possesses a biobank of international standards with a million-level sample size, and is home to Guangdong Provincial Center for Early Childhood Development Application Engineering Technology, the Guangdong Provincial Center for Children Clinical Research and the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory for Structural Birth Defect Disease.

Introduction of Translational Pediatrics and AME Publishing Company

Translational Pediatrics (Transl Pediatr, tp.amegroups.com; tp.amegroups.org, Print ISSN 2224-4336, Online ISSN 2224-4344) is an open access, peer-reviewed, monthly journal (quarterly published from Jul. 2012 to Oct. 2019, bimonthly published from Dec. 2019 to Dec. 2020). TP publishes articles in all aspects of health care in newborns, children and adolescents. Contributions pertinent to pediatrics are also included from related fields such as nutrition, surgery, respiration, dentistry, urology, public health, child health services, human genetics, basic sciences, psychology, psychiatry, education, sociology, and nursing. Currently, TP has been indexed by PubMed/PubMed Central, Scopus and Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE). The SCIE impact factor 2023 for TP is 1.5.
