Prof. Arabella  (Ellie) Smith got MB BS from the University of Sydney with Hons II. With resident at RPAH, subsequently she worked at the Oliver Latham Laboratory,North Ryde (Department of Health NSW), then the Children’s Hospital, Camperdown (which moved to Westmeadin 1995). The work involved metabolic studies (cystinuria) and thencytogenetics.

Work has been in all aspects of cytogenetics – prenatal, constitutional and oncology.   Main area of research (with many research grants, over 100 publications and international affiliations) is in Prader-Willi Syndrome [PWS] and Angelman Syndrome [AS], from 1980. Retired from the routine laboratory in 2012, but has maintained research interests in PWSand AS, (including involvement in both Australian & International societies) to the present time.
