An obituary notice for our editorial board member: Dr. Xinying Li, MD
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our esteemed editorial board member, Dr. Xinying Li, MD (Figure 1), on February 23, 2026, at the age of 48 years.
At the time of her death, Dr. Li was a Professor at the Key Laboratory of Mental Health, Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China. She also served as the Principal Investigator of the Child and Adolescent Emotion and Cognition Development Research Group.
Dr. Li earned her medical degree from Peking Union Medical College in 2003. From 2003 to 2005, she pursued postdoctoral research at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, focusing on the neural mechanisms of anxiety. In 2005, she joined the Beijing Twin Study (BeTwiSt) project, marking the beginning of her extensive research into adolescent mental health. Over the years, she enriched her expertise as a visiting scholar at the University of Manchester, UC Davis, the University of Minnesota, and the Stanford Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department.
Dr. Li was a prolific contributor to the academic community, authoring numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Her primary research interests included autism spectrum disorder and adolescent emotional problems, fields in which she made significant contributions. She had been a valued member of the editorial board of Translational Pediatrics (TP) since January 2021, and her work was featured in the journal on multiple occasions, including three highlighted publications (1-3).
Dr. Li’s legacy endures in the countless children and adolescents positively affected by her work and in the high standards of care she championed. Her memory will continue to inspire us, guiding future advancements in the field of medicine.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
