Title: Falling into the Unknown
Cover Story:
Hello everyone, my name is Yin Haojun, and I am 15 years old. This painting was inspired by one of my favorite science fiction movies, Interstellar. What struck me most in the film was the colossal and mysterious black hole, "Gargantua." It resembled a cosmic behemoth, quietly suspended at the edge of spacetime—beautiful yet terrifying. With my brush, I tried to capture the complex emotion of wanting to get closer and explore, while also feeling a profound fear of its vast unknown nature.
In my artwork, instead of painting a literal black hole, I wanted to express the sensation of being pulled and distorted by immense gravity and warped spacetime. I used a multitude of fluid, intersecting strokes to depict the moment matter is torn apart and reassembled. The seemingly chaotic colors represent the extraordinary light one might witness while falling in—sights that are beyond our current comprehension. In the central part of the painting, I used warmer tones like orange and yellow. These symbolize the hope and courage of the film's protagonist, who travels through the black hole for the sake of his family and the survival of humanity. In contrast, the large areas of dark colors and grays represent the cold, unknown, and perilous nature of the universe.
The process of creating this piece was like a small expedition in itself. I mixed the paints over and over, trying to find the perfect colors to represent "warped spacetime." Every brushstroke was an attempt to simulate the trajectory of a spaceship falling into the black hole. To me, this painting is not just a tribute to a movie; it is an imaginative exploration of the universe, the future, and human emotions. It represents my awe for the vast cosmos and his unending curiosity about the unknown.
